20" KDF-GAC Polyphosphate Filter

The AMPAC USA 20" KDF-GAC Polyphosphate Filter (KGP-20-BB) combines three media types — KDF, Granular Activated Carbon (GAC), and polyphosphate — to address chlorine, organic contaminants, and iron in a single 20-inch cartridge sized for standard Big Blue housings.

The KDF media works through an electrochemical reaction that reduces 99% of chlorine taste and odor from municipal water, while also creating an electrolytic field that generates peroxide and hydroxyl radicals — an environment unfavorable to bacteria, algae, and fungi. That bacteriostatic effect helps prevent biofouling and can extend the life of the overall filtration system.

The GAC component adds a second layer of protection, adsorbing volatile organic compounds, pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals that affect taste, odor, and safety. Together, KDF and GAC provide more thorough contaminant reduction than a single-media filter.

The polyphosphate media addresses a different problem: high iron concentrations that cause staining on fixtures and laundry and contribute to metallic tastes. By sequestering iron, it prevents it from precipitating out of the water, reducing rust stains and scale buildup and protecting plumbing and appliances like dishwashers and washing machines.
