pH Balancing Filters
pH balancing filter cartridges restore beneficial minerals to reverse osmosis treated water, raising the slightly acidic pH typical of pure RO output (pH 5.5–6.5) to a neutral or mildly alkaline level (pH 7.0–8.5). Pure RO water is naturally slightly acidic because carbon dioxide remains dissolved in the permeate after filtration; calcite (calcium carbonate) and magnesium oxide media dissolve trace amounts of minerals to neutralize this acidity naturally.
Beyond pH correction, calcite media adds beneficial calcium and magnesium that improve the taste of RO-treated water and provide trace dietary minerals. pH-balanced RO water is preferred for drinking, coffee brewing, cooking, and aquarium use where slightly acidic water affects taste or biological environments.
AMPAC USA pH balancing cartridges are available in standard 10-inch and 20-inch housing formats, compatible with all AMPAC USA 5-stage and higher residential and commercial RO systems. pH balancing is typically the final filter stage before the faucet. Calcite media slowly dissolves and requires replacement every 6–12 months. For higher pH requirements above 8.0, a magnesium oxide blend achieves pH 8.0–8.5.
