Carbon/KDF

Carbon/KDF

KDF (Kinetic Degradation Fluxion) media is a high-purity copper-zinc alloy that removes dissolved chlorine, heavy metals, and hydrogen sulfide from water through a redox (oxidation-reduction) reaction. Unlike activated carbon, KDF does not adsorb contaminants — it converts them chemically, which means KDF media does not become a reservoir for bacteria and can be regenerated by backwashing. KDF is particularly effective for reducing lead, mercury, arsenic, iron, and cadmium to trace levels in both residential and industrial applications.

AMPAC USA carbon/KDF combination cartridges deliver the benefits of both media in one filter stage: KDF provides heavy metal reduction and inhibits bacterial growth, while activated carbon adsorbs chlorine, chloramines, organic chemicals, and taste and odor compounds. This combination outperforms carbon-only cartridges in service life and contaminant reduction breadth, making carbon/KDF cartridges an ideal choice for whole-house pre-treatment and commercial drinking water systems.

Carbon/KDF cartridges are recommended where source water contains elevated heavy metals, high chlorine, or bacterial regrowth concerns. Available in standard 10-inch and 20-inch housing formats, compatible with all AMPAC USA and standard filter housings.
