We could dress up as superheroes like Spiderman, Batman, or even the lesser-known Green Lantern. Or maybe famous villains like the Joker and Dracula. But those are all fictional, right? What if we made this Halloween extra special by playing a real-life villain or superhero instead?\n
The real-life villains
\nFor many of us, this might sound a bit strange, maybe even cheesy, but the environment has been battling pollution for ages. With its army of bad guys like The Nasty Air Pollution, The Sickening Water Pollution, and The Deafening Sound Pollution, Pollution has way more powerful villains than Stan Lee ever dreamed up. The weird thing is, we don’t even know most of these villains, the ones that silently, invisibly roam the earth. Their work is actually pretty impressive, considering they’ve been lurking for decades, slowly eating away at our planet’s life without us even noticing.\n\nOne villain, as determined and gritty as Thanos himself, is The Sickening Water Pollution. It’s been around since the Industrial Age in the early 1900s, and today, it’s a huge danger to Earth. At first, the pollution wasn’t enough to hurt innocent lives, but it grew massively because we ignored it. For decades, this monster has been causing serious trouble worldwide. \n

- People have reported terrible diarrhea, typhoid, cholera, and hepatitis after contact with this villain.

\nIndustrialization and people ourselves are some of the reasons water pollution grew so much. But just like Stan Lee created memorable villains and then everlasting superheroes to defeat them, humans have too!\n
At last! A Superhero!
\nFrom a humble chemist’s lab came a technology built to help people fight this monster. Jean-Antoine Nollet, back in 1748, discovered osmosis through a semi-permeable membrane between two solutions with different concentrations.
