The water situation in California is getting out of hand. The state is once again in a drought, and all the residents feel its impact. People are being asked to reduce their water use and help save water. If you are also concerned about the drought and want to help save water, then read on. Here are a few useful tips on how to save water during the California drought.

  • Water Your Lawn Less

Lawns are very water-intensive. So, it’s time you rip out your lawn or water it less. The more you save on the lawn, the more water will be available for other purposes like shower, cooking, brushing, and other such personal uses.

  1. Don’t Grow Non-Native Plants

If you need to grow plants, make sure you replace the non-native plants with native ones. Plants that don’t belong to Southern California will be more likely to take up more water than native plants meant to thrive here. Native plants also help the birds and bees.

  • Fix all the Leaks

Check your water bill every month to be doubly sure that you are using the water you are paying for. If the bill is more than your expectations, you need to check for leaks throughout the house. Then you need to fix all the leaks. If you can’t find the leaks, you can hire a plumber for the job or, better yet, invest in a smart leak detector.

  • Get Rid of Redundant Appliances and Fixtures

To save water in these tough times, you can get rid of old appliances (like an old dishwasher or washing machine) and fixtures (showerheads and toilets). The newer versions will use less water and help you to save water on every use. Replacing old appliances will help reduce both water and energy costs. So, consider them as an investment.

  • Try Simple Tricks

Try the following simple tricks in your daily routine to save water.

  • Turn off the tap while you brush your teeth.
  • Don’t let the water run while taking a shower, washing, brushing, shaving, or cleaning.
  • Run washing machines and dishwashers only when you have a full load.
  • Don’t let the water run when you wait for the shower to warm up. Instead, store it in a bucket and use it for cleaning or watering the plants.
  • Clean the sidewalks and driveways by using a broom, not a hose.
  • Don’t wash your car every day. Instead, use a cloth to get rid of the dust.
  • Water outdoor plants in the evening or early morning as midday sun might cause too much H2O to evaporate.

  • Buy Wisely

When shopping for products in the supermarket, know how much water-intensive the foods you are buying are. It means how much water is needed to grow a plant and package it for you. Choose products that need less water to survive and thrive. Even when buying stuff like jeans, t-shirts, or smartphones, know the water required to manufacture it. It might shock you that making a new cotton t-shirt needs 650 gallons of water, while manufacturing a new smartphone might cost 3,000 gallons.

  • Be Active in Pushing the Government

You should know that no matter how much water the households save, the government is the one that needs to act. So, it would be best if you asked the local and state officials to back water-saving legislations and enforce them. Attend city council meetings (even virtually) to know what water conservation plans are being implemented. If you see water wastage, report it to the authorities or even the media.

  • Stay Updated on Helpful Products

If the water quality in your area is affected due to the drought, you need to stay aware of helpful products like portable water purification systems by AMPAC USA. These Emergency Portable Watermakers are self-contained and easily transported purification devices that are extensively used to treat untreated water sources. Their major role is to treat the water for pathogens and toxic compounds with an immediate risk of causing health problems. This is an essential resource to people without easy access to drinking water like military personnel on missions, disaster-affected areas, people out for camping or hiking, and people in developing countries where safe water is low on supply.

AMPAC USA has designed these portable watermakers with the advanced Reverse Osmosis technology that requires feed water and a power source to operate. Many of these products can be customized with solar panels in emergencies when power is not available. In addition, the product can remove 99% of contaminants due to the RO process to give quality drinking water instantly.

The reverse osmosis portable water purification systems are available in the range of 150 to 1500 gallons per day and have the following features.

  • Easy to transport
  • Flexible and requires less space
  • High-quality RO membrane with pre-filters
  • Quiet operation
  • Works with an On / Off switch
  • It comes with a 12-month manufacturer warranty
  • Equipped with heavy-duty pelican case wheels for mobility
