\\n\\nThe COVID-19 pandemic really put viruses on everyone’s radar. Since even tiny amounts of viruses can make us sick, finding good ways to remove them has been a hot topic for researchers. We gathered 1060 research papers from the Web of Science database to see what’s trending and where we stand. This review looks at the latest in membrane filtration and disinfection for treating water that might have viruses, whether it’s wastewater or drinking water. Turns out, membranes and disinfection methods can remove a wide range of viruses, from 0.5 to 7 log reduction values (LRVs) for membranes and 0.09 to 8 LRVs for disinfectants. This huge difference happens because membranes and disinfectants interact differently with viruses, and viruses themselves have varying susceptibility based on their capsid protein and nucleic acid. We also talk about the tough parts and the exciting possibilities for using membrane and disinfection technologies to specifically target viruses, which helps stop waterborne diseases from spreading.\\n\\n
