Can You Get COVID from Tap Water?

Abbott said that using anything other than the reagent included in the package can lead to inaccurate results. The company stated, “Other liquids have chemical properties which can cause a chemical reaction on the test strip, resulting in misleading or inaccurate results.”

Even a study published in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases in August 2021 also backed it up. It noted, “We observed that all soft drinks, energy drinks, alcoholic beverages (vodka, whiskey, and brandy), commercially bottled mineral water, and carbonated mineral water caused the appearance of a red test line. However, when equal volumes of the buffer and the respective beverages are mixed, there are no false-positive test lines.”

COVID Doesn’t Transmit Through Water

Many top organizations, like World Health Organization, U.S. Centers for Disease Control, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, have stated that COVID is not transmissible through the water. Even the CDC website says, “Conventional water-treatment methods that use filtration and disinfection, such as those in most municipal drinking-water systems, should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.”

The Verdict

All in all, it can be said that when you use a test on anything other than a human being who is experiencing symptoms, you are wasting your time, money, and effort. It would help if you did not do that as you can’t get COVID from tap water. There’s ample evidence of it.
