Solutions For Water Scarcity and Water Hazards- What the UN Says About it?

Climate change is worsening water scarcity and water hazards, according to the United Nations. Water scarcity means the lack of clean and drinkable water, and water hazards include hazards caused due to water, such as droughts or floods. The recent rise in temperatures is disrupting precipitation patterns, and the entire water cycle is being impacted.

How are Water and Climate Change Linked?

There is no doubt about the fact that water and climate change are linked. Due to climate change, the earth is experiencing unpredictable rainfall patterns, rising sea levels, shrinking ice sheets, droughts, floods, and many other water-related issues.

Solution For Water Scarcity & Need to You Know About Water Scarcity & Water Hazards?

According to the SDG report of 2022, about two billion people across the globe can’t access safe drinking water. About half of the people in the world today face severe water scarcity for some part of a year. These numbers will likely rise if population growth and climate change keep rising in the future.

Only 0.5% of the water on our planet is usable and drinkable. That supply is also dwindling due to climate change. Everything from snow, ice, and soil moisture is declining and is expected to decline rapidly in the next few years.

When glaciers and snow cover decline, it leads to a reduction in meltwater, which is essential for people living near mountains. Glacier and snow melting also leads to a rise in sea levels, further leading to an increase in groundwater salinization. As a result, the freshwater resources shrink further.

Higher water temperatures, droughts, and floods can also increase water pollution, as the water has more pesticides and pathogens.

Solution For Water Hazards & Scarcity

As global temperatures rise, they lead to an increase in moisture the atmosphere can hold. Hence, the number of storms and heavy rain incidents is increasing too. When the water evaporates from land and global weather patterns change, it also brings in intense dry spell incidents. All these incidents affect society and will continue to do so in the future.

Water-related disasters are deadly too. They account for as high as 70% of all deaths associated with natural disasters. Since 2000, flood-related disasters have increased 134% compared to the previous two decades. Most of the deaths and associated economic losses were in Asia. During the same period, the number of droughts also increased by 29%. Most drought-related deaths have occurred in Africa.

Solution For Portable Water Purification Systems

One possible solution to help humanity deal with water issues is investing in Portable Water Purification Systems or Emergency Portable Reverse Osmosis systems that can help during droughts and similarly extreme situations.

AMPAC USA’s Emergency Portable Watermakers are self-contained and easily transported purification devices extensively used to treat untreated water sources. Their major role is to treat the water for pathogens and toxic compounds with an immediate risk of causing health problems. This is an essential resource for people without easy access to drinking water, like military personnel on missions, disaster-affected areas, camping or hiking, and people in developing countries where safe water is low on supply.

AMPAC USA has designed these portable watermakers with advanced Reverse Osmosis technology that requires feed water and a power source. Many of these products can be customized with solar panels in emergencies when power is unavailable. The product is able to remove 99% of contaminants due to the RO process to give quality drinking water instantly.

These are available in the range of 150 to 1500 GPD, and some of their key features are:

  • They are easy to transport.
  • They are flexible and require less space.
  • All of them have a high-quality RO membrane with pre-filters.
  • They have a quiet operation.
  • They work with a simple On / Off switch and come with a 12 months manufacturer warranty.
  • All of them are also equipped with heavy-duty pelican case wheels for mobility.
