An error in translation later led to the Old High German word <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: esostarum<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which eventually became &#8220;Easter&#8221; in English.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Religious Roots<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: Easter isn't just one day, it's a whole season in the Christian year. Lent, for example, is a 40-day period right before Easter Sunday. It's a time for reflection and penance.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: Many believe Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness, resisting the devil's temptations before starting his ministry.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: The day before Lent is Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday. This includes Maundy Thursday, which remembers Jesus's Last Supper with his disciples.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: Then there's Good Friday, when Jesus was crucified, and Holy Saturday, which bridges the time between his crucifixion and resurrection.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: The 50 days after Easter are known as Eastertide, celebrating Jesus's ascension to Heaven.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: People celebrate Easter all over the world.
