Sure, heading to the mountains or enjoying the breezy weather in LA sounds nice, but we've got some ideas to keep you cool right where you are, and help the planet too!

<span style="font-weight: Alaska might beat Nevada in July, but what if you don't have the time or money for a big trip? Read on to discover how you can be the coolest friend this summer, just by saving a little water every day:

Upgrade Your Gardening Rituals

<span style="font-weight: If you love your backyard garden, summer can be tough. Plants dry out fast, and many communities restrict lawn <<span style="font-weight: watering to conserve resources. We’ve got some smart tweaks to help your garden survive the heat.

<span style="font-weight: Water your garden when the sun isn't blazing. Early morning or late evening is best, to minimize evaporation from the soil. Use drip irrigation so water goes straight to the roots, and avoid watering at midday or on windy days.

<span style="font-weight: When watering slopes, make sure the water soaks in instead of running off. Build small terraces or use slow, steady irrigation.

<span style="font-weight: Before summer really hits, check your soil. Use water-absorbing soil that holds moisture instead of letting it run over the surface.

<span style="font-weight: Create basins around your plants and shrubs. These little "moats" help water soak in better. If you have space, connect them to your main irrigation line.

<span style="font-weight: Mulch is your friend! It can cut evaporation by 50% and also helps keep weeds away.

<span style="font-weight: Know when your lawn truly needs a drink. Step on the grass, then lift your foot. Does it spring back? If not, it's thirsty. Also, let your grass grow a bit longer, up to 7 centimeters, to help it retain more water. This simple trick can save 5,000 liters every month!

Pay Special Attention To Your Washrooms

<span style="font-weight: Toilets and bathrooms are often big sources of water leaks, wasting hundreds of gallons. A great first step is to call a plumber to check all the pipes in your house for leaks. Beyond that, a few simple changes can make you much more eco-friendly.

<span style="font-weight: Install low-flow tap aerators and efficient showerheads. They control how much water you use for showers and taps, cutting consumption by up to 50%.

<span style="font-weight: Switch to a water-saving showerhead and keep your showers to just 5 minutes a day. You'll save 900 liters!

<span style="font-weight: Don't treat your toilet like a trash can. It's designed for human waste, period. Flushing things like plastic, excessive toilet paper, wet wipes, or diapers can clog pipes or force you to flush multiple times, wasting water.

<span style="font-weight: Toilets are the second biggest spot for leaks. Do the toilet dye test to check for any hidden leaks, then fix them to stop further waste.

<span style="font-weight: Fill the sink with a bit of water to rinse your razor. A running tap wastes a lot. And when you brush your teeth, always turn off the tap completely. Doing this just four times a day can save 1,800 liters each month!

Practice Water Conservation In Your House

<span style="font-weight: Be a great role model by practicing water-saving habits at home. Consider installing a <<span style="font-weight: Reverse Osmosis filter that minimizes rejected water, which you can then use for indoor plants or cleaning. Here are some more ideas:

<span style="font-weight: Washing dishes by hand can use up to 27 gallons per session. A dishwasher, however, uses only 3-5 gallons. Run it only when it's completely full, once a day, and you could save 450 liters daily!

<span style="font-weight: If it ever rains, set up a barrel or containers under your terrace downspouts. You can use this collected rainwater for your garden or even offer it to thirsty birds.

<span style="font-weight: Got a pool? Get a cover. It stops water from evaporating, especially during the hot afternoon sun.

<span style="font-weight: Head to a car wash instead of washing your car at home. Commercial car washes use a set amount of water efficiently to get your car sparkling clean.

<span style="font-weight: Cover open balcony areas and even parts of your lawn with large green mats. This helps keep your house cooler by reflecting sunlight and not absorbing heat.

<span style="font-weight: Try out these cool ways to live this summer.
